CERTIFICATION FOR A Career

A career as an Assistive Mobility or Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) repair technician has huge potential!

There are many opportunities for individuals with a basic mechanical aptitude to find new careers within the growing Assistive Mobility or CRT technician field. The industry currently has approximately 11,000 technicians, and there is an expected growth in the wheelchair user population of 25% due to population increases and retiring baby boomers.

AMRG is committed to establishing and overseeing universal standards for repair technicians in the Assistive Mobility and CRT industry. The AMRG certification serves as a benchmark within the rehab industry, offering two distinct levels of certification.

AMRG-APPROVED EDUCATION

U.S. Rehab and the major rehab equipment manufacturers offer courses meeting the AMRG-approved qualification. To confirm a course or educational opportunity qualifies, please contact AMRG.

AMRG-APPROVED ONLINE TRAINING

Online training courses covering a range of mobility aids, including scooters, manual and power wheelchairs, essential electronics and programming, are available through U.S. Rehab’s Rehab Education Store. Click here to learn more.

AMRG-APPROVED LIVE Tech Training

Hosted by U.S. Rehab, this two-day, hands-on intensive tech training program led by multiple major manufacturer instructors is offered four times a year across the United States and offers up to 16 CECs (1.6 CEUs) Click here to learn more.

AMRG Certification

AMRG Certification confirms the capability to conduct service and repairs in accordance with established industry standards for a wide range of assistive mobility and complex rehab equipment.

An AMRG Certified Technician has a comprehensive understanding of assistive mobility and CRT medical equipment, ranging from walkers and manual wheelchairs to scooters and Group 2 consumer power chairs.

Certification Requirements:

Assistive Mobility Repair Technician (AMRG Certified Tech) requirements must be completed in the 12 months immediately prior to submission for certification:

  • Documentation of 10 hours rehab technician related continued education in the form of CECs or CEUs. Aligns with Medicare requirements.

  • Documentation of factory training by manufacturers of the products supplied by employer, which may be included as part of the required continued education. Aligns with Medicare requirements.
  • Documentation of 2,000 assistive mobility repair technician work experience hours. Confirms active participation in assistive mobility repair.
  • Successful completion of the AMRG Online Exam, which consists of 120 questions completed in a single session and with a passing score of 70% or higher. Measures theoretical competency of assistive mobility repair.
  • Signed copy of the AMRG Code of Conduct. Requires responsible, courteous and professional conduct.

    AMRG Master technician 

    AMRG Master Technician designation elevates the AMRG Certified Technician who aspires to career leadership and is authorized to oversee and validate the completion of the AMRG On-The-Job Training Model for AMRG candidates..

    Master Technician Certification Requirements:

    • Current Assistive Mobility Repair Technician certification
    • Documentation of 6,000 assistive mobility repair technician work experience hours within the 3 years immediately prior to submission for AMRG Master Tech. Confirms ongoing active participation in assistive mobility repair.
    • Successful execution of the AMRG On The Job Training Model with oversight and validation by an AMRG Master Tech. Confirms practical competency of assistive mobility repair through application.

      RECertification

      AMRG Recertification encourages continuous growth to address the evolving needs of assistive mobility repair.

      AMRG Certifications are valid for 2 years.

      Recertification Requirements:

      • 20 hours of documented assistive mobility rehab technician continuing education in the form of CECs, CEUs or a combination of CECs & CEUs 
      • AMRG Recertification fee of $150.00
